911 Dispatch
Calling 911…
-
Any time there is a crime in progress or a life threatening situation.
-
Jeffersontown is considered a Secondary PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) meaning all 911 calls made in the Louisville Metro area will get routed through MetroSafe, the primary PSAP for Jefferson County. Once the calltaker determines you are in need of police assistance in Jeffersontown they will transfer the call to our dedicated dispatcher. PLEASE DO NOT HANG UP DURING TRANSFER
EMS and Fire calls for service are handled and dispatched by MetroSafe

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION
The first thing the dispatcher will ask is “WHERE is your emergency” This is the most vital piece of information you can give. If the line gets disconnected or the situation prevents you from giving any other information, we will at least know where we need to respond to.
Once we know the Where, we will ask the What? When? and Who? This will be the time to provide details such as:
What occured?
How long ago did this happen?
Who was involved?
Is there any description of the suspect?
Did they leave? Which way did they go? Did they leave in a vehicle or on foot?
Were there any weapons involved?
Is anyone injured?
This may seem like a lot of questions but this is all necessary and helpful information for the responding officers. One common misconception is that a dispatcher waits until the call is completed to send help. In true emergency situations our dispatchers work as a team with one remaining on the call to get information and another relaying that information to the responding officers.
-
If you need police assistance but it is not an emergency situation you can call or text the non-emergency line at (502) 267-0503
-
We know accidents happen! If you or a child calls 911 by mistake, DO NOT HANG UP. Stay on the line and explain the situation and that there is no emergency.
When we receive 911 hang up calls we are required to call the phone number back. If we do not get an answer and are able to determine where the call was made, officers may be dispatched to verify there is not an emergency potentially tying up resources that could be handling other situations.
-
Usually. If a call is made from a landline we can usually determine your location. Cell phone locations have improved drastically but are still somewhat unreliable, and while we have several resources we can use to determine your location, it is always best if you can tell us where you are when you call.
Did you know you can now text us?
JTPD uses a program called Prepared Live, a software solution that enables dispatchers to live stream and receive photo, video, text, and GPS location from mobile 911 callers in real-time. It also allows our dispatchers to send outbound text-from-911 messages to obtain information, send links to assist callers in their need, and can even be used to translate text messages in real time. Text our non-emergency line at (502) 267-0503 to begin a conversation with one of our dispatchers.
911 relies on your ability to share critical information. RapidSOS has created the world’s first emergency response data platform that securely links life-saving data from connected devices or profiles to 911 and first responders in an emergency.
Now you can be RapidSOS Ready by using the link below to set up an Emergency Health Profile, to provide first responders with as much or little critical information as you want. In the event you need 911, your information will automatically be sent to 911 dispatchers through RapidSOS.
The LENS Alert system was created to send critical notifications about things such as severe weather, disasters both natural and manmade, road closures, AMBER Alerts, etc. Notifications are sent through the Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency
In addition to receiving notifications, a profile can be set up through Smart911 to send important information to dispatchers such as names, addresses, door codes, medical conditions, vehicle info, pet info, and much more. For more information on Smart911 CLICK HERE
