PROCEDURE FOR FILLING COMPLAINT AGAINST A POLICE DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEE

The goal of the Jeffersontown Police Department is to ensure the integrity of the Department and its employees by providing gudelines and procedures for prompt and just disposition of all compaints made against Department employees. Integrity shall be maintained through an internal system where fairness and objectivity are ensured by an impartial investigation and review.

To voice a complaint against an employee of the Jeffersontown Police Department, you may:

1. Come in person to the Jeffersontown Police Department, 10410 Taylorsville Road and tell the employee at the front window that you would like to speak to a shift supervisor about making a complaint.

2. Call the Jeffersontown Police Department, 502-267-0503 and tell the call taker that you would like to speak to a shift supervisor about making a complaint.

3. Submit your complaint in writing and mail it to the Chief of Police, Richard Sanders, Jeffersontown Police Department 10410 Taylorsville Rd, Jeffersontown, KY 40299.

4. Submit you complaint in writing through email to the Chief of Police, Rsanders@jtownkypd.org

If voicing your complaint in person or by phone, you will be referred to the shift supervisor. If submitting your complaint in writing, the shift supervisor will contact you upon receipt of your complaint. The shift supervisor will speak with you and listen to your concern(s) at the time your complaint is received.

The shift supervisor can assist you in completing a Complaint Control Form JT-192, which will be forwarded to the Chief of Police and assigned for further investigation. During the investigation, you may need to be contacted and asked additional questions or for additional information regarding your complaint. When your complaint has been fully investigated, the Chief of Police will review the investigation and you will be contacted and advised of the findings of the investigation.

If the complaint is still not resolved to your satisfaction, a meeting may be scheduled with the Chief of Police to discuss your complaint. The Chief of Police will then advise you of your right to file a formal complaint with the Jeffersontown Civil Service Commission in the form of an affidavit, signed, sworn to by the complainant and notarized pursuant to Kentucky Revised Statute 15.520
